In-form Mullin on target again

Paul Mullin scored his third goal in three games to give Accrington Stanley an important 2-0 win over Macclesfield - who remain without a league goal or a point. Striker Mullin was the main dangerman for the Reds and he volleyed home four minutes after the interval after he got on the end of John Miles' corner. And another Miles corner led to the second on 59 minutes when Town keeper Johnathon Brain fumbled a Jimmy Ryan strike from the edge of the area and could only watch in agony as it rolled into the net for the midfielder's first goal for Accrington. Stanley had a woeful home record last season and boss John Coleman must have given them a half-time blast after a poor first 45 minutes. Chances were limited with the best falling to Macclesfield's Clayton McDonald, on loan from Manchester City, who headed Ahmed Deen's corner inches over the crossbar. But, after the break, it was all Accrington in the early stages with Mullin coming close to a second and Ryan forcing a good save out of Brain before the keeper's howler. Town did have a late rally with striker Martin Gritton almost scoring their first goal of the league campaign when he burst into the area unmarked but he fired over the goal and Gareth Evans was denied by Kenny Arthur to add to their misery.
