Loan striker on target to sink Colchester

Loan star Nicky Forster scored his 18th goal of the season and first at The Valley for Charlton since signing on loan from Brighton as they secured a vital 1-0 victory against Colchester to keep themselves in with a chance of second place. The striker powered in a great diving header from Lloyd Sam's pinpoint cross in the 21st minute after sublime skill from the midfielder left Colchester's John-Joe O'Toole on the floor and soon after stretchered off injured. Colchester almost took an early third-minute lead when former Charlton striker Kevin Lisbie hit a low shot from 10 yards towards the bottom right corner, but Darren Randolph just got a hand to it to palm it clear. Steven Gillespie put in the rebound from five yards but he was judged to be narrowly offside. Sam almost added to Charlton's lead with a fantastic 25-yard drive in the 74th minute. Lisbie was given a straight red card in stoppage time for clashing with Nicky Bailey off the ball as the home side held on comfortably for their third 1-0 victory in four matches.
