Hayles strike clinches thriller

Striker Barry Hayles grabs an injury-time winner for Cheltenham in their 4-3 win over Colchester.

Cheltenham come back from behind to win

Veteran striker Barry Hayles grabbed an injury-time winner to give Cheltenham the points in a seven-goal thriller at Whaddon Road after a 4-3 win over Colchester. Martin Allen's side were trailing 3-1 and looked to be heading for defeat until two goals in two minutes from Lloyd Owusu and Stuart Fleetwood from the penalty spot pulled them back level before Hayles popped up with a close range effort four minutes into stoppage time. Colchester scored first on 20 minutes through Anthony Wordsworth after Michael Townsend had miscued a clearance forcing a reflex save from Scott Brown which fell kindly for the midfielder.

Victory

Darren Kenton's looping header from an Alex Russell cross levelled the match after 36 minutes but the U's regained the lead two minutes before the interval through Wordsworth sliding in a Mark Yeates pull back. Colchester looked certain for victory when they extended their lead on 51 minutes through Johnnie Jackson's deflected shot. But the Robins hit back two minutes later through Lloyd Owusu and drew level on 55 minutes through a Stuart Fleetwood penalty after Matt Heath handled. With just seconds left, Hayles poked in Owusu's goal bound shot to clinch victory.
