Robinson levels from spot after McGleish opener for visitors

Northampton Town held out for long spells with 10 men to earn an FA Cup first round replay after a 1-1 draw at Leeds United. On-loan striker Scott McGleish gave the Cobblers an early lead before the visitors saw midfielder Giles Coke sent off for two bookable offences after 26 minutes. Andy Robinson levelled from the penalty spot for Leeds on 36 minutes before hitting the post, while Robert Snodgrass struck the upright in the second half. The Cobblers were ahead through their first attack on nine minutes when McGleish guided the ball past Casper Ankergren after former Leeds striker Leon Constantine had mis-hit his attempt from Ryan Gilligan's pull-back.

Injury setback

The visitors then lost captain Chris Doig to injury before Danny Jackman hacked the ball off the line after Paul Telfer had risen well to meet Robinson's corner on 18 minutes. McGleish had another goal ruled out for offside on 21 minutes before the Cobblers were reduced to 10 men five minutes later when Coke was dimissed for picking up a second yellow card after bringing down Fabian Delph. Leeds defender Lubomir Michalik then volleyed across the face of goal and Delph's screamer of a shot was frantically beaten away by Frank Fielding. The hosts were level on 36 minutes when Robinson smashed a penalty into the roof of the net after Mark Hughes was penalised for a trip on Jonathan Howson.
Woodwork to rescue
Fielding almost gifted Leeds a second goal before half-time when his attempt to prevent the ball going out for a corner was seized upon by Luciano Becchio, but the striker could only find the side-netting. Robinson thundered a shot against the post from 25 yards before the break and then blazed over not long after the restart after cutting in from the left. The upright again came to Northampton's rescue on 51 minutes when Snodgrass swivelled smartly onto a throw-in and hit a stunning left-foot volley which had Fielding beaten. Substitute Enoch Showunmi pleaded for a penalty after some fancy footwork in the box before Robinson curled a late free-kick into Fielding's arms as Northampton hung on for a replay back at Sixfields.
