Peter Thorne bagged two for Bradford as he secured a 2-0 victory against Macclesfield.
The Bantams made early pressure tell in the 10th minute when shuffling backwards, Thorne intelligently directed a looping header over the advancing John Brain.
Thorne was again on hand in the 14th minute to pounce on a fluffed clearance from Sean Hessey and drive home a shot from 15 yards.
The home side might have got back into the game in the 21st minute but youngster Gareth Evan sent a half-volley from 10 yards inches wide.
In the second-half substitute Francis Green warmed the hands of Bradford goalkeeper Rhys Evans with a stinging drive.
Bradford then twice hit the woodwork - first through a low Michael Boulding shot after 69 minutes and then through Omar Daley at the death.
