Midfielder to miss rest of tournament

Romania have confirmed that midfielder Mirel Radoi will miss the rest of Euro 2008. The 27-year-old was involved in a nasty clash of heads with team-mate Razvan Rat during the 1-1 draw against Italy on Monday. He was stretchered off to be replaced by Nicolae Dica in the 25th minute, and the extent of his injury has now been confirmed. Radoi has a broken nose and will also need eye surgery, meaning there is no chance of him playing against Holland in Romania's final group game. Romania will advance to the quarter-finals if they beat Marco van Basten's side on Tuesday but Radoi would still not be available for the knockout stages. "He will not play any more at Euro 2008. He will undergo surgery tomorrow (Sunday) and hopefully all will go well," said team spokesman Paul Zaharia. Striker Ciprian Marica was ruled out of the game with Italy following another aerial collision with team-mate Daniel Niculae in training last week. However, he is now back in training and will be fit to feature against Holland.
