South Korea overcome Nigeria in repeat of World Cup encounter

South Korea's new coach Cho Kwang-Rae opened his reign with an impressive 2-1 victory against Nigeria in Seoul. The sides reunited in the friendly international at the Suwon World Cup Stadium, just a matter of months after their World Cup meeting in South Africa which ended 2-2. The Koreans eliminated Nigeria to reach the second round back in June before they were eliminated by Uruguay The Taegeuk Warriors were not to be denied on this occasion as goals from Yoon Bit-Garam and Choi Hyo-jin were enough to overcome the Super Eagles. Talented 20-year-old debutant Yoon gave the hosts the lead after 17 minutes flicking the ball past a defender and smashing in a shot from just inside the area. The Nigerians, coached by Augustine Eguavoen, soon restored parity when Kalu Uche's free-kick was headed home by Osaze Odemwingie after 27 minutes. But new coach Cho was not to be denied his first win when Choi dispatched his first international goal just four minutes before the break when he slipped home Park Ji-sung's through ball. The result was perfect preparation for South Korea ahead of the 2011 Asian Cup in January.
