Rookie Oldham defender Carl Winchester admits he never expected to make a first-team breakthrough this season.
The 18-year-old scored a wonder goal for the Latics in Saturday's final npower League One match of the season at home to MK Dons. The first-year scholar has made six senior starts as well as one further substitute appearance in his debut season at Boundary Park. He said: "It was unbelievable to score, but even more so as it was with my left foot. The ball sat up lovely and I thought I would hit it and it was a great feeling to see it in the back of the net. "I never imaged I would be playing first-team football so soon. I expected to be playing in the youth team and may be having the odd game for the reserves. "To play so many times for the first team has been brilliant."
