Defender Andreas Wolf has joined Werder Bremen on a free transfer after his contract at Nurnberg expired.
The Russian-born German, who can play in central defence or at right-back, parted ways with Nurnberg following a nine-year stint as a senior player at the Bundesliga club.
After coming through the youth ranks at the German side, the 28-year-old went on to amass 175 league appearances, earning the captain's armband.
Wolf has penned a two-year contract in Bremen to keep him at the Weserstadion until 2013, while he also has the option of a further year.
He told
Deutsche Pressagentur: "I am happy things have progressed so rapidly.
"I only received the enquiry from Werder last week and I was keen to take the opportunity.
"I want to progress as a player at Werder Bremen and I want to take over responsibilities within a young set-up."
Experience
Werder's general manager Klaus Allofs believes Wolf will bring a wealth of experience to the side after captaining Nurnberg for several years.
He added on the club's
official website: "We are happy to have sealed this transfer. We are able to kill two birds with one stone due to this.
"We have signed a good defender for our backline and we have signed a player on a Bosman that has already been a skipper at Bundesliga level for another team.
"So he can bolster our mentality on and off the pitch."
