New PSV signing aiming for silverware on debut season

PSV Eindhoven new-boy Tim Matavz has set his sights on lifting the Eredivisie title with the Dutch giants this season. The Slovenia striker was signed from Groningen this summer for a fee which could rise to €6million. He is aiming to help his new employers end a three-year drought during which relative underdogs AZ Alkmaar, FC Twente and PSV's traditional rivals Ajax have all lifted the trophy. "I want to show I'm worth the money," he told De Telegraaf. "My aim for the season with Groningen was 20 goals. But I'd rather be champion with PSV than top scorer." Matavz will be hoping to pull on his new number nine shirt for the first time in Sunday's away game against VVV-Venlo, but he admitted: "I do not know whether I will play. I will only start training with the first team on Friday. "I do not think I will have much trouble adjusting. At FC Groningen, I played in the same system and I know the language and culture because I have had four years living in Holland."
