Young goalkeeper looking to stay in squad

Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler hopes to retain his spot in the Germany national side after being called up for the recent Euro 2012 qualifiers. The former Manchester United youngster is yet to earn a senior cap for his country but featured in the squad for the final qualifiers against Turkey and Belgium. The 22-year-old was named as an unused substitute for Tuesday's 3-1 victory in Dusseldorf, with Bayern Munich ace Manuel Neuer keeping the No.1 jersey. With the European finals looming next summer Zieler, who established himself as first-choice keeper at Hannover last season and has retained the gloves ever since, is hoping this is just the beginning of his international career.

Future

"I am hoping to be allowed to remain a part of the squad for the future," he told Deutsche Presseagentur. "I think I have done a good job and participated well in the team training sessions. "I have to wait and see, I need to be patient. It's a gradual process, step-by-step. "In recent months things have developed very quickly for me." Zieler, who recently agreed a new deal with Hannover to keep him at the Bundesliga side until 2015, returned to Germany last year after spending much of his youth career at United.
