Celtic defender thanks team for support after being sent off

Celtic defender Cha Du-Ri has expressed his gratitude to his team-mates for helping him shake the feeling of being the 'loneliest man in the world'. The South Korean was sent off for the first time in his career on Sunday, with Celtic already a goal down to fierce rivals Rangers in the Old Firm clash. The 31-year-old knew the sending off would make the Hoops' challenge more difficult, and admits he never felt as low in his career. "The first thing my father taught me when I came to European football in Germany 10 years ago, was the importance of having good team-mates," Du-Ri told the Daily Record. "This week I have finally realised what that meant. "I was sent off in a vital match and that put the team in great difficulty. In fact, it cost us the game really. "All I could think about was that this defeat was all my fault. "When I had to take the long walk back to the dressing room I felt like the loneliest man in the world. Then what my father told me all those years ago became true. "All my team-mates, coaching team and even the medical staff came up to me and put their arm around my shoulder and told me I didn't deserve to be sent off. "They have given me the strength to lift myself and carry on. I want to thank everyone for making me feel better."
