Colchester have captured former Sheffield Wednesday striker Clinton Morrison on a free transfer ahead of the upcoming season.

The 33-year-old striker, released by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season, has penned a two-year deal with the U's and will now link up with his new team-mates on their pre-season training camp in Holland. Morrison's arrival ends a long pursuit by manager John Ward, who has been chasing the experienced frontman's signature for the past 18 months. The former Republic of Ireland international told Colchester's official website: "I am a player who likes to be loved, and with a manager here who has been chasing me for about a year-and-a-half, I think I will be loved. "I think we'll play football to my strengths and hopefully I'll reward him and the fans, who I hope to get onside straight away by scoring goals."
