Chantler has second operation

Carlisle defender Chris Chantler has undergone a second operation in a bid to heal his troublesome ankle injury.

The 22-year-old underwent surgery at the start of February, but has since suffered several setbacks due to a persistent infection. Chantler has now gone under the knife for a second time to remove and reapply screws and sutures understood to be causing the problem. "We're at a point where we can't put any timescales on his recovery," physio Neil Dalton told the club's official website. "He's obviously extremely frustrated, but it was felt that this was the best way forward to bring an end to the infection problems. "He'll now start the rehab process, once the wound has healed, and we'll get a better idea of where we're at once he's able to step things up." Chantler last featured for the Cumbrians in their 1-0 home victory over Coventry in mid-January.
