Andrew added to Stags squad

Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox has completed the signing of former Port Vale striker Calvin Andrew.

The 26-year-old had been training with the League Two club after being released by the Valiants at the end of the last campaign and featured in some of their pre-season matches this summer, scoring against Coventry and Gainsborough Trinity. The Stags, back in the Football League after a five-year absence, had hoped to have Andrew available against Tranmere in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night but his registration was not completed in time. His paperwork has now been completed and he will go into Cox's squad for the league game at home to Exeter on Saturday. "I've kept myself fit over the off-season and have put in a lot of work to get myself right. I feel I did myself justice in the few games which I've played in," said Andrew. "I'm a strong and powerful forward with pace. I'm perhaps not as quick as I used to be but will still out-run most defenders in this league, I'm sure." Andrew began his career at hometown club Luton where he remained until 2008 when he joined Crystal Palace, where 53 of his 68 appearances for the club came in the Championship. He left the Eagles a year ago and spent last season with League Two promotion winners Vale.
