Turner: No killer instinct

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner said his side lacked the winning mentality after their 1-1 draw at Crawley.

Crawley were eventually thankful for a point-saver midway through the second half from midfielder Andy Drury after Aaron Wildig had volleyed Shrewsbury ahead a minute after the break. The home side wasted a glorious chance to go ahead just before the interval when Billy Clarke had a penalty saved after Darren Jones had brought down Nicky Adams. Turner admitted to having "mixed feelings" over the point. He said: "It was a hard game for us and we had to defend well in the second half. "Unfortunately we haven't got a winning mentality because we dropped too deep in the second half. "We had several good opportunities and should have put at least one away, but we are relatively pleased overall." Turner singled out keeper Weale for special praise and said: "It was a good penalty save as he read it well. In the last 14 months we've seen some really good solid performances from him." Crawley levelled when Drury headed in from five yards after an assist from Proctor and and unhappy Turner added: "It was a soft goal. We allowed them too much room from the throw-in. It was a lapse of concentration and we paid the price for that. "Looking at the game, at times we did well, but other times we should have done better. But there was more pace on the game and it was a better performance."
