Kiwomya looks to build on win

Chris Kiwomya insists Notts County's poor start to the season can be turned around after their 1-0 JPT victory over Burton.

The Magpies have garnered just a solitary point from their opening five League One fixtures but they secured only their second win in eight games in all competitions with victory at Meadow Lane. On-loan Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor scored the only goal for the hosts and Kiwomya, who was without the likes of injured duo Danny Haynes and Enoch Showunmi, claims some of his returning stars can make the difference. "We have players injured and we need them in the fold. We need them to pull their fingers out and do their bit for us," Kiwomya said. "We are one or two players short from where I want to be. That means we are relying on young players at what is a difficult time for the club but it's great experience for them. "We switched Gary Liddle into midfield and he looked happy, although he said he'd forgotten just how fast the game is there. "It was a good performance from a side short of experience. We had a very young bench. "I'm glad of the 10-day break before facing MK Dons. It should enable us to get one or two players back on the pitch. "We've been losing games by the odd goal. I've always said that once we get our best 11 out we will be okay and start moving up the league." McGregor scored the only goal of the first-round tie five minutes before half-time when he let fly with a low shot from 20 yards which beat Burton goalkeeper Dean Lyness down to his left. Albion rallied with Damien McCrory, Ian Sharps and substitute Rene Howe all going close but the Magpies held on.
