Vote of confidence for Kiwomya

Jim Rodwell admits he is alarmed by Notts County being bottom of League One - but insists manager Chris Kiwomya's job is safe.

Notts have only one point from their first five league matches, with their only victories this season coming against Fleetwood and Burton in the Capital One Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy respectively. Kiwomya's side were without a game on Saturday and finished the weekend at the foot of the table following Coventry's 2-0 win over Colchester on Sunday. The Sky Blues began the campaign on minus-10 points but are now level with Notts on one point, but with a superior goal difference. Responding to fans' questions in a live webchat via the club's official website, Rodwell said: "Am I alarmed? Yes, certainly. This isn't where we expected to be or hoped to be but it is a harsh reality of football - you don't always get what you wish for. "We aim to finish an awful lot higher up the league than we are currently! We have to remain optimistic. I think last season two teams that spring to mind who had awful starts were Bournemouth, who went on to be promoted, and Walsall, who just missed out on the play-offs. Hopefully we can emulate somewhere between those two sides. "I think during the early part of the season we've struggled particularly with sendings off and injuries, but clearly results need to improve for the better and that's something that we all have to take responsibility for, from the board, through to the management, through to the players. "I don't really want to talk about sacking managers to be honest because we've seen previously that this hasn't proved overly-productive, but it's clear to everybody that we have to do better, we have to perform better, we have to excite our fans more and Chris knows that better than anybody. "We are supportive of Chris and we will do everything we can to help the team win games of football."
