Klopp expects midfielder to be out for rest of season

Borussia Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa is set to miss the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his right foot during the Asian Cup. The Japan midfielder broke his fifth metatarsal in the Blue Samurai's semi-final victory against South Korea and the player is now en route to Tokyo for surgery. The 21-year-old was substituted in the 87th minute of Japan's penalty shoot-out victory in Qatar and a scan later confirmed the worst. "He is on his way to Japan for surgery," the club said in a statement. "It was his wish and the club agreed. It is not yet decided when he will return to Germany." The Bundesliga leaders claim it is unlikely the player, who has bagged eight goals in his first season in Germany, will return before the end of the season. "There are variations in this injury but I do not know of any case that a player came back earlier than three months," said Dortmund head coach Juergen Klopp.
