Togo failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and so they will be eager to impress at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Adebayor must be on top form for Sparrow Hawks to progress

Togo failed to repeat their achievement of qualifying for the 2006 World Cup and missed out on South Africa 2010. However the Sparrow Hawks will be eager to impress at the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola. History suggests that Hubert Velud's men will not reach the quarter-finals of the tournament as their four previous appearances have resulted in disappointing first-round eliminations. Their recent form is also far from convincing as they were beaten 3-0 by Cameroon and 5-0 by Japan towards the end of last year, suggesting they will struggle against quality opposition.

One to watch: Emmanuel Adebayor

The captain will have to be at his best if Togo are to survive a difficult group that includes tournament favourites Ivory Coast and continental powerhouse Ghana.
Coach: Hubert Velud
The 50-year-old Frenchman has had an uneventful career in management and has only been in charge of Togo for a few months.
