Hannover overcame Freiburg 3-1 away from home to boost their hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification.
The top three teams in the Bundesliga advance to Europe's premier club competition and Hannover occupied fourth place ahead of kick-off, one point adrift of Bayern Munich.
Mirko Slomka's visitors started strongly at the badenova-Stadion and opened the scoring after 24 minutes courtesy of Mohammed Abdellaoue.
Jan Schlaudraff doubled Hannover's advantage just after the half-hour mark and Konstantin Rausch made it 3-0 early in the second half.
Jan Rosenthal reduced Freiburg's arrears with ten minutes remaining but there was not enough time to mount a fightback.
While Hannover are now third, having played a game more than Bayern, the result leaves Freiburg eighth.
