Scunthorpe went top of the League One table with a 3-0 home win over Crewe - their ninth league success in 10 games.
The Iron were denied in the early stages by Crewe goalkeeper Steve Collis, who did well to keep out shots from Paul Hayes and Matt Sparrow.
But Scunthorpe finally made the breakthrough in the 38th minute when striker Gary Hooper set up an easy chance for winger Martyn Woolford to convert from close range.
The visitors almost snatched an equaliser just before half-time when a flashing header from Tom Pope was brilliantly turned away by goalkeeper Joe Murphy.
Scunthorpe dominated the second half with Hooper and Woolford both rattling the woodwork before Hayes finally made it 2-0 in the 67th minute with a clinical finish from an opening created by Hooper.
The goal Scunthorpe needed to take them top of the table on goal difference came in the 80th minute when skipper Izzy Iriekpen rose high at the far post to head home from a Woolford corner.
