Swansea earned the bragging rights among the Championship's newly-promoted teams as they defeated Nottingham Forest 3-1 at Liberty Stadium.
Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith handed Swansea the lead as he put into his own net, but James Perch equalised for the visitors.
However, Roberto Martinez's Swansea side, last season's League One champions, then proved too strong for Forest as Ferrie Bodde and Gorka Pintado secured the points.
It was a a chance to prove how far both sides have progressed since sealing their places in the Championship in May.
The last three encounters between the teams ended goalless but a moment of misfortune for Forest keeper Smith in the seventh minute ensured that would not be the case.

After an open start to the game, Swans midfielder Britton collected the ball on the right and skipped past two challenges before cutting inside and unleashing a fizzing drive toward goal.
Britton's effort beat keeper Smith's despairing dive but not the post. The ball deflected back off the upright only to hit the hapless Smith on the back of the head and roll over the line.
The hosts played the sort of flowing one-touch football that saw them finish 10 points clear of Forest as League One champions last term.
Darren Pratley's drilled shot from the edge of the area in the 13th minute came close to doubling the lead as further efforts from Bodde and Thomas Butler reflected the Swans' domination.
But completely against the run of play, Forest levelled 10 minutes before half-time.
It was on-loan midfielder Lee Martin who provided the moment of inspiration in a rare attack from the visitors as he delivered a tantalising cross from the right.
Rejuvenate
Goalkeeper Dorus De Vries got nowhere near the ball as he came to collect and it hit midfielder Perch on the knee at the back post to make it 1-1.
The home side came out of the tunnel at half-time rejuvenated and began to exert their domination on the game once again as defender Gary Monk placed his header just wide.
And persistent pressure was rewarded in the 70th minute when Forest centre-back Wes Morgan was adjudged to have tripped midfielder Butler in the area. Bodde tapped in after his first spot-kick was well saved by the sprawling Smith
The Swans continued to dictate proceedings and despite a flurry of late counter attacks led by Forest's two outstanding players - Robert Earnshaw and winger Martin - never looked likely to concede.
And the game was effectively killed as a contest when substitute Pintado put the result beyond doubt with an exquisite third goal for Swansea in the 85th minute.
Left winger Gower hurdled over two challenges and beat his man before crossing from the byline for Spanish striker Pintado to lash home a spectacular effort with the outside of the foot to make it 3-1 and wrap up all three points for the Swans.
