From Tiger defences to a couple of unwanted records - PGA Championship facts and figures, part 2

Tiger Woods is the only player to have successfully defended the PGA title in the stroke-play era, managing the feat for the second time in 2007. Bobby Nichols was the first wire-to-wire PGA champion at Columbus in 1964. Tiger Woods became the fifth player to achieve the feat as he pipped Bob May at Valhalla in 2000. The last time the PGA was won by a score over par was in 1971 when Gary Player shot one-over 281 at Oakland Hills. YE Yang, at Hazeltine in 2009, was the first player to beat Tiger Woods in a major tournament when the American had been leading - or tied for the lead - after 54 holes. Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus are the only two players to have won the PGA Championship five times. Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer share the record for the most PGA appearances with 37, six more than Tom Watson. Firestone yielded just 13 rounds under par in the 1960 tournament, while there were 194 sub-par rounds at the Riviera Country Club in 1995. Brad Faxon is the only player to card 28 over nine holes when he went birdie-crazy on the outward half in the final round at Riviera in 1995. Gary Campbell (Pebble Beach, 1977) and Tom Dolby (Hazeltine, 2002) have the unwanted distinction of the highest round in a PGA - 94.
