Fly-half Kris Burton was the hero for Italy as they bounced back from their loss to Argentina with a 25-16 win over Canada in Toronto.
Burton landed six penalties and converted Tommaso D'Apice's try to seal the win.
However Canada will be left ruing what could have been after they led 13-9 at the break.
Conor Tranior's try, plus a conversion and two James Pritchard penalties, had seemingly put the Canucks in control.
Burton, though, kept chipping away at the deficit before D'Apice's try put Azzurri 19-13 ahead.
Pritchard landed another penalty but Burton ended hopes of a comeback with two more three-pointers.
